Cetylite is no newcomer to the pharmaceutical industry, and its steady, multigenerational history attests to its success. The company was founded in 1947 and is still family-owned and operated. It stands among the few pharmaceutical companies that manufactures all of the products that it sells. “We control all aspects of production and marketing,” said Wachman, “and we pride ourselves on the high level of quality in our products and packaging that we’ve maintained for more than five decades.”

There is a simple reason why Cetacaine®, the cornerstone product of Cetylite Industries, Inc., is the premier topical anesthetic in the world: it works. Physicians know that Cetacaine’s rapid onset of action and long effective duration ensures patient comfort and affords clinicians the time they need to complete procedures while the anesthetic is still active. Cetacaine takes effect within seconds, remains effective for up to 30 minutes per application, and is suitable for use on all accessible mucous membranes (except the eyes). The drug is formulated as spray, gel and liquid, making it practical for a wide spectrum of procedures in many specialties, including upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy and colonoscopy.

For upper GI endoscopy, gastroenterologists naturally turn to Cetacaine® spray to numb the esophagus and interrupt the gag reflex. Reaching proximal treatment areas is easily accomplished with Cetylite’s J-4 Jetco-Spray® stainless steel cannula, which is ideal for dental interproximal dispersion. For procedures that require greater reach in areas of the larynx and pharynx, endoscopists can attach Cetylite’s J-6 (six-inch) or J-8 (eight-inch) stainless steel cannulas.

“Time is a crucial factor for gastroenterologists working in the upper GI tract,” said Stanley L. Wachman, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cetylite Industries, Inc. “Cetacaine gives longevity to these procedures so that the endoscopist can take a thorough look at the esophagus and complete any necessary observation and therapy. And because Cetacaine allows patients to relax and experience minimal discomfort during a procedure, they’re more compliant and the physician can get more done in a shorter time.”Wachman noted that Cetacaine is the only prescription, triple-active, fixed combination topical anesthetic on the market. The overlapping effects of the active ingredients in Cetacaine yield a particularly rapid onset and long-lasting anesthesia. Cetacaine also has a good safety profile, high patient tolerability and a pleasant taste.

To maximize value and convenience, Cetylite Industries, Inc., has bundled everything endoscopists need for upper GI anesthesia into an Endoscopy Kit that includes Cetacaine spray, two four-inch cannulas, one six-inch cannula and one eight-inch cannula. Cetylite also offers 10-packs of four-inch replacement cannulas to improve reprocessing turnaround time and facilitate the completion of multiple cases.

Cetacaine® gel offers gastroenterologists the combination of a contact anesthesia and a lubricant, making the product especially useful for performing colonoscopy and office-based sigmoidoscopy. The gel can be applied directly to the patient pre- and post-procedure to increase comfort, and can also be spread directly on instruments. The third formulation, Cetacaine® liquid, is ideal for instant pain relief on accessible mucous membranes, and can be applied using instruments or cotton swabs.

Cetylite Industries, Inc., also offers a full line of disinfection and sterilization products. Cetylcide II® is a broadspectrum Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registered disinfectant used by hospitals, physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals. It is the most effective and least expensive way to kill HIV and HBV. Cetylcide II Concentrate contains no alcohol, bleach, iodophor, phenol or glutaraldehyde and will not damage water-safe surfaces. It cleans as it disinfects and contains a biodegradable detergent.

Cetylcide-G® is a specially denatured glutaraldehyde-based formula that works in a time-sensitive manner. For example, at room temperature 20° Celcius, Cetylcide-G kills mycobacterium tuberculosis in 40 minutes and bacterial spores in 10 hours. The solution is reusable for up to 28 days as both a high-level disinfectant and sterilizing agent, and can be safely disposed of down the drain.

The C-Tub® is the most functional and durable instrument receptacle on the market, accommodating both large and small instruments for disinfection and sterilization in an optically clear chamber. It can hold up to three times as many instruments as a traditional disinfection tray, while occupying minimal counter space. The C-Tub was designed specifically for use with Cetylcide-G, but may be used with other disinfection or sterilization products. Cetylite Industries, Inc., also markets an ultrasonic cleaning and holding solution, breath fresheners, office deodorizers, anti-fog formulas, skin protection lotion and a releasing agent.
